Aghdasiyeh
Project Information
The office-commercial project located on Aghdasiyeh Street in Tehran has been designed as a 10-story building. This complex aims to offer a contemporary response to environmental conditions and prevalent pollution in dense urban areas by harnessing the potential of architectural design.
The primary approach throughout the design process has been an emphasis on biophilic principles—an approach aiming to improve users’ mental and physical well-being by reestablishing a connection between humans and natural elements. Efforts have been made to incorporate elements such as natural light, ventilation, the presence of vegetation, nature-inspired colors, and green views as active contributors in shaping the spaces.
Functionally, the project is organized with the lower floors dedicated to commercial activities and the upper floors assigned to office spaces, responding to the need for maximum interaction with the urban environment at the ground level, while providing greater tranquility on the higher floors.
In addressing environmental challenges such as noise, visual, and air pollution, the project’s design has moved toward defining an intermediate layer between the city and the interior spaces. The project defines three distinct spatial realms: the outer realm (the city), the inner realm (the primary functional spaces), and the intermediate realm, which serves as a transitional and filtering layer between the other two.
The building’s transparent outer skin functions as a climatic filter that not only allows for controlled admission of light and air but also creates favorable conditions for developing a green interstitial space. This space can provide a more suitable habitat for plants and enhance the quality of the interior environment.
In this context, the use of passive strategies such as air tunnels, natural air circulation, and solar systems has also been considered as steps toward sustainable architecture. However, the full realization of these goals will require further development, monitoring, and updates throughout the implementation and operational phases.
